Important Information For When The Surgery Is Closed

This website is to inform you about the arrangements that your doctor has made for emergency cover when your surgery is closed.

Your doctor is a member of North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors in order that your emergency medical problems are handled more effectively.

Can I Go To The Primary Care Centre Without Telephoning First?

No! Access to the centre must be strictly by appointment in order that the doctors on duty are expecting you and have details of your medical condition.

What Happens When I Telephone The North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors Service?

A trained telephonist will answer your call at our operations centre in York, and take your name, address, telephone number, the name of your usual doctor and brief details of the medical condition. The information will then be passed straightaway to a doctor working at one of the 11 Primary Care Centres, who will call you back as soon as possible.

In order to ensure the quality of our services, your call may be recorded.

What Happens If I Have Transport Difficulties?

If you feel that you may have difficulty in visiting a Primary Care Centre it would be sensible to make contingency plans in the event of an emergency. For instance, perhaps you have a neighbour, relative or friend who can help if the need arises, or you can use public transport or a taxi.

IN A TRUE EMERGENCY YOU CAN BE SURE THAT A DOCTOR WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE FOR YOU

Will My Own Doctor Know I Have Used The North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors Service?

Yes. All relevant details will be passed to your own doctor.

How Can I Make My Comments Known?

We do welcome any comments or suggestions you might have that would enable us to improve the service we offer. You are very welcome to write to the General Manager at 31 Monkgate, York YO31 7WA.

You are also entitled to make a complaint, in which case it will be handled promptly and sensitively, in accordance with complaint procedures agreed by the local Health Authority.

Community Health Councils may be able to assist you with making any complaints. You can find the address of your local CHC from the telephone directory.
