What Are Primary
Care Centres?
These are very similar to your
normal doctor's surgery and are equipped to deal with emergency consultations
with a doctor. Often, patients are best seen at a Primary Care Centre, rather
than home, for three reasons:
*
The patient can be properly examined under better lighting than is usually
available at home and with equipment that cannot be carried in the doctor's
car.
*
Should the patient need to be admitted to hospital following the doctor's
examination, this can be quickly arranged directly from the centre.
*
A doctor can see four times as many patients at the centre in the time it
takes to do one home visit. This ensures that the best possible service is
provided to all patients.

Will
I See My Own Doctor, If I Use The Service?
All the doctors working for North
Yorkshire Emergency Doctors are fully trained, experienced, approved by your
local Health Authority and know the area well. Your own doctor will be one
of those working for North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors when it is their turn
to work a shift. However, because doctors work on a shift/rota system you
are more likely to see a doctor from another practice should you need to
use the service.
Does
The Service Work?
Yes. The North Yorkshire Emergency
Doctor service has been operating since 1996 and is now dealing with up to
15,000 calls per month. The system is very popular with patients who have
benefited from a high quality service at a time of urgent medical need and
with doctors who have been able to reduce the time spent on call.
